Our Mission
It is the mission of the Brandon Police Department to maintain social order and provide professional law enforcement services to citizens in the community, within prescribed ethical, budgetary, and constitutional constraints. This department strives to enforce the law and maintain order in a fair and impartial manner, recognizing the need for justice, and the consistent appearance of justice.
We recognize that no law enforcement agency can operate at its maximum potential without supportive input from the citizens it serves. This department actively solicits and encourages the cooperation of all citizens to reduce and limit the opportunities for crime, and to assist in bringing to justice those who break the law.

Overview
The Brandon Police Department consists of 42 certified officers and 12 civilian staff who are committed to the betterment of Brandon and the safety of its citizens and their property. We strive to provide a professional and timely response to all calls for service.
Our officers have the duty and authority to enforce the laws of the State of Mississippi and ordinances of the City of Brandon within our corporate limits.

Command Staff
Joseph French
Chief of Police
Chief Joseph French began his law enforcement career in 1999 and has served in numerous capacities at agencies throughout the state. Chief French developed leadership skills as a Training Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force Officer and now Chief of Police. Chief French’s law enforcement career has extended through Patrol Operations, Investigations Division, Narcotics Division, Training Division, and Accreditation Manager.
Chief French’s work ethic has earned him recognition through the National Criminal Enforcement Association and Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) for a series of several large-scale drug enforcement investigations that he initiated. Chief French obtained Mississippi Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MSLEAC) accreditation status for the Brandon Police Department in 2015, making it the first accredited law enforcement agency in Rankin County.
Chief French is a graduate of Liberty University and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of FBI Command College, FBI Sniper/Observer Course, Secret Service National Computer Forensics Institute, and holds numerous specialized certifications in law enforcement.
Beau Edgington
Assistant Chief
Assistant Chief Beau Edgington began his law enforcement career with the Brandon Police Department in 2003. After earning an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice and graduating with honors from Aims College, Edgington completed the MS Law Enforcement Officers’ Training Academy as the top graduate of his class.
Edgington was promoted from Patrol Officer to Detective in 2006 and became an affiliate member of the MS Attorney General’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force in 2010, specializing in digital forensics and computer crimes. He graduated from the state Certified Investigator Program in 2010 and transitioned to a supervisory role as Detective Sergeant in 2011. He has been an active Firearms Instructor and Law Enforcement Alliance for Peer Support (LEAPS) counselor since 2012.
In 2016, Edgington was promoted to Detective Lieutenant as Chief Investigator overseeing the Criminal Investigations Division and completed the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association Mississippi Command College in 2018. He was transferred to the command staff in 2022 as Training Coordinator and Evidence Manager. Edgington was certified as an Active Violence Emergency Response Training (AVERT) Instructor in 2023 and selected as the Assistant Chief in 2024.
